Mueller's Garden Lane – Summer Color!

The heat is on, and the flowers are wilting… unless you planted the varieties which can stand the heat. Penta, Lantana, Dragon Wing Begonia, Purslane, Sunpatiens, Knock Out Roses, Tropical and Perennial Hibiscus, BIG Begonia, Caladiums, Elephant Ears, Coleus, Mandavilla, and some others are great heat lovers… and they are thriving at Mueller's Garden Lane. Need some summer color for that party coming up? Want to refresh your planters or get some new combinations? Come over to Mueller's Garden Lane and select what you need?

Summer Trials are here as well. What is a “Summer Trial”? Each summer we select a species or category to test for adaptability and performance to our region… a “Summer Trial”. This summer we are taking a hard look at Tomatoes – hybrids from our list, heirlooms from the past, and some new hybrids we may want to add for the years to come. We have planted “earth boxes” to grow these varieties in a test plot at the Sikeston location. The Trials are ready for noting beginning June 25 and into July. We have also planted large containers with many varieties of Petunias, and other annuals to see which perform best during our summer heat. These are ready for your observations beginning June 25 as well. If you take the time to fill out one of our evaluation forms and give it to our staff you will earn a $10.00 gift card for use now or in the fall. We hope you will enjoy our Summer Trials, and understand that we work hard to bring you the best varieties for this region.

And to make you more aware of our plans for the future… we have already begun to plant mums, seed pansies and kale, stack straw bales aside, and preparing to bundle corn shocks… the pumpkins are growing, the fall veggies will be ready, and soon the cooler nights of Autumn will be here. Remember Mueller's Garden Lane first for your fall decoration needs.

Finally, we want to invite you to drop by on Wednesdays around 11 for Tea Time Topics. An hour each week we discuss a garden topic or show a garden DVD, have some Iced Tea and a snack, and encourage each other to keep that garden growing. We hope to see you!
